Cricket South Africa & MyPlace – High‑Density WiFi at the Bullring

Stadium guest wifi case study at DP World Wanderers Stadium

The 2024-25 season turned DP World Wanderers Stadium into a test case for high-density connectivity. With crowds filling the Bullring, The DP World Wanderers required stadium guest WiFi capture portal that could flex with match-day surges – through their official IT Partner, Z3 Technologies, they chose MyPlace to make stadium-wide guest access effortless.

Scalable, Single-SSID Captive Portal

MyPlace delivered a single-SSID captive portal across public areas, engineered to auto-scale as device numbers spiked. Average log-in latency stayed under a second, and authentication flows remained smooth even when thousands of devices came online at once.

Implementation was quick and easy and there was no requirement for extra hardware or equipment on site. A secure API link was established with the host network controller allowing for remote configuration and testing. This friction-free rollout allowed Cricket South Africa’s IT team to stay focused on match operations instead of infrastructure.

Stadium Guest WiFi in Action During Major Matches

The first major test came on 15 November 2024, when South Africa faced India under lights. As supporters packed stands, the portal handled hundreds of new registrations every minute at peak while maintaining consistent speeds for live-streaming and social sharing.

An even greater examination followed on 8 February 2025, the sold-out SA20 Final. The system absorbed continuous high-volume traffic, again onboarding hundreds of fresh users per minute without a blip. “We never saw a dip in service, even at peak demand during the finals,” said Muhammed Ahmed, Head of IT Operations, DP World Wanderers Stadium.

Data-Driven Insights for Future Engagement

Across the season MyPlace captured thousands of data-compliant fan profiles – one in six spectators re-authenticated at a later match – giving The DP World Wanderers rich first-party data for future campaigns. All of it was delivered with zero downtime. “The DP World Wanderers was the ultimate stress-test,” notes Peadar Gormley, MyPlace Founder. “Delivering sub-second log-ins there proves we can scale anywhere.”
