UniFi Cloud Gateways

Device List

  • UDM, UDM Pro, UDM-Se, UDM-Pro-Max
  • EFG
  • Cloud Gateway Max
  • UniFi Express
  • UDW, UDR, UCG

Public IP

A static public IP is required for the cloud gateway. If the cloud gateway is behind another primary router, you’ll need to configure a port forward from the primary router to the UniFi cloud gateway on port 443

If it is not possible to get a static IP, then consider using a dynamic DNS service

Port Firewall Rule

Follow the steps below to create a firewall rule to allow MyPlace access to your UniFi Cloud Gateway. Access can be restricted to IP addresses used by MyPlace service

  1. Navigate to Settings > Security > Traffic and Firewall rules
  2. Create entry
  3. Rule type > Advanced
  4. Type > Internet Local
  5. Name > MyPlace (or something similar that is easy to remember)
  6. Action > Accept
  7. Protocol > All
  8. Source > Port/IP Group (can be completed later)
  9. Address Group > New – add IP addresses provided in MyPlace app (can be completed later)
  10. Destination Type > Port/IP Group
  11. Port Group > New
  12. New Port/IP Group > Give a name like ‘MyPlace’. Port Group – add port 443 and create
  13. Complete > Add Rule

If port 443 is not available, or used by another service then you can use port 5443 or 8443. Make sure port is applied consistently across platforms

To enhance security, MyPlace can provide a list of service IPs, allowing you to restrict access to the port and ensure it is only accessible to authorized systems.

Creating a User

A local user is required to make the required API connection to the UniFi cloud gateway controller. The user created should not be connected with the UniFi OS cloud account and specifically needs to be a local user only. Follow the steps below to create a local user

  1. Settings > Admins & Users
  2. Click on the small plus icon in the top right corner
  3. Restrict to local access only – must be checked
  4. Enter username and secure password. Keep a record as these will be required later in MyPlace setup
  5. Use a pre-defined role – must be unchecked
  6. Network > Site Admin. Add all sites required if multiple sites listed
  7. All other sections > Set to None
  8. Add to save details
