UniFi Cloud Gateways

Device List

  • UDM, UDM Pro, UDM-Se, UDM-Pro-Max
  • EFG
  • Cloud Gateway Max
  • UniFi Express
  • UDW, UDR, UCG

Public IP

A static public IP is required for the cloud gateway. If the cloud gateway is behind another primary router, you’ll need to configure a port forward from the primary router to the UniFi cloud gateway on port 443

If it is not possible to get a static IP, then consider using a dynamic DNS service

Port Firewall Rule

Follow the steps below to create a firewall rule to allow MyPlace access to your UniFi Cloud Gateway. Access can be restricted to IP addresses used by MyPlace service

Find Your Firewall Settings

Look for one of these paths (depends on your controller version):

  • Settings → Security → Traffic & Firewall Rules
  • Settings → Security → Advanced (then look for Internet Local or Policy Engine)
  • Settings → Routing & Firewall → Firewall

Create the Rule

Fill in these fields when you see them (not all versions show all fields):

Basic Info:

  • Name: MyPlace Access
  • Rule Type: Advanced (if you see this option)
  • Type/Direction: Internet Local (or WAN Local in older versions)
  • Action: Accept or Allow
  • Protocol: TCP (or All if TCP isn’t available)

Source (Optional – for extra security):

  • If you want to restrict access to only MyPlace servers, create a group with the IP addresses from your MyPlace dashboard
  • Otherwise, leave as “Any”

Configure Destination Port

You need to specify which port to allow. Scroll down to the Destination section.

  1. You need to specify which port to allow. Scroll down to the Destination section.
    • If you see “List” with sub-options like “Address Group” and “Port List”, keep it as List
  2. Look at “Destination Type”:
    • If it shows “List” – leave it as List
    • If it shows “Object” – leave it as Object
    • If it shows other options (Network, IP Address) – select “List” if available
  3. Find the Port field (may be labeled “Port List”, “Port Object”, or just “Port”):
    • Click the dropdown (probably shows “Any”)
    • Click “New” to create a new port
  4. Create the port:
    • Name: MyPlace or UniFi Controller
    • Port: 8443 (this is the standard UniFi controller port)
      • If your controller uses port 443 instead, enter that
    • Save and select your new port list/object

Note: Port 443 is the standard UniFi controller port. If your setup uses 8443 instead, use that.

UniFi API Integration (recommended)

Generate the Unifi Network API Key:

  1. Access the UniFi Network Application:
    • Log in to your UniFi Network application via the web interface or through your Official UniFi Hosting account.
  2. Navigate to the Integrations Section:
    • Go to Network > Settings > System > Integrations.
      Alternatively:
  3. Generate the API Key:
    • In the Integrations section, you will find the option to generate API keys.
    • Follow the prompts to create a new API key.
  4. Save the API Key:
    • Once generated, make sure to securely save the API key, as it may not be displayed again.

Creating a User (For Legacy Controller Versions)

Older UniFi controller versions do not have the built-in Integrations feature that newer controllers use to connect with third-party services like MyPlace. Instead, these older controllers require API access through a local user account with specific credentials.

Important: The user you create must be a local-only user, not connected to your UniFi OS cloud account. This ensures MyPlace can authenticate directly with your controller.

Follow the steps below to create a local user:

  1. Settings > Admins & Users
  2. Click on the small plus icon in the top right corner
  3. Restrict to local access only – must be checked
  4. Enter username and secure password. Keep a record as these will be required later in MyPlace setup
  5. Use a pre-defined role – must be unchecked
  6. Network > Site Admin. Add all sites required if multiple sites listed
  7. All other sections > Set to None
  8. Add to save details.

Connect Your Network Controller to MyPlace

1. Open the MyPlace Admin Panel

Go to the MyPlace Admin Panel → open the Networks section, then go to the Network Controller tab.

2. Add a New Controller

Click the “Add New Controller” button.

3. Select Controller Type

In the list, choose:

  • Type: Ubiquiti Unifi
  • Subtype: Network Application

4. Enter Controller Address

Enter the external IP address of your controller,
or the domain name if one is assigned.

5. Choose Credential Type

From the dropdown list, select:
API Key
Username and Password

6. Enter Your API Key or Admin Credentials

Paste the API key you created earlier.
(or enter the admin credentials if you are on a legacy controller version)

7. Finish

Click the “Finish” button to save the controller and complete the integration.
